The Financial Planning Manager is responsible for managing and developing financial planners within the region, collaborating closely with advisors to create tailored financial plans for high-net-worth clients. This position focuses on overseeing team workflows, training and developing staff, and ensuring the timely delivery of high-quality financial plans. The Financial Planning Manager will work within a regionally-based team to deliver personalized financial services, fostering a collaborative and client-focused culture aligned with the firm’s core values: Integrity, Entrepreneurial Spirit, Inclusion, and Connection.

Requirements

  • Certified Financial Planner designation required
  • Minimum of 7+ years of client-facing experience in financial services, including advanced knowledge in tax and estate planning
  • Proven experience in managing and developing a team, with a focus on coaching, mentorship, and resolving personnel issues
  • Expertise in financial planning softwares such as: Zoom, PractiFi, MyComplianceOffice, Microsoft Teams/Office Suite, Tamarac, eMoney, Money Guide Pro, Social Security Analyzer, Advisys, MBS Highway, Zilculator, Holistiplan, Planner CS, Monday.com
  • Exceptional ability to build and maintain relationships with clients, ensuring high levels of satisfaction and retention
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial concepts to clients and internal teams
  • High attention to detail, with an ability to provide accurate, reliable financial advice
  • Ability to work independently, make decisions with minimal supervision, and use discretion when dealing with sensitive matters
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with a proven track record of identifying potential challenges and developing quick, effective solutions to maintain workflow efficiency and client satisfaction
  • Undergraduate degree required

Responsibilities

  • Partner with the Regional Director and Associate Director of Financial Planning to manage team workflows, ensuring timely plan delivery and overseeing planning coverage.
  • Coordinate schedules, approve time off, and ensure client plans are completed on time.
  • Implement an onboarding program for new hires in the region and provide ongoing training for current team members.
  • Regularly check in with new hires to assess progress and ensure consistent training.
  • Conduct performance reviews for the team, including regular check ins for mentorship, providing constructive feedback, and supporting professional development.
  • Help team members identify strengths, opportunities for growth, and career development paths.
  • Continuously improve training materials and processes to ensure team members are equipped with the tools and knowledge to excel in their roles and provide exceptional client service.
  • Lead the creation of integrated financial plans for high-net-worth clients (assets $5MM+), including advanced tax planning, estate planning, and more.
  • Provide ongoing support to advisors in presenting complex financial topics, ensuring the firm’s value proposition is clearly communicated and well understood.
  • Ensure a consistent, high-quality financial planning experience across all locations and client interactions.
  • Stay informed on industry trends, particularly changes in tax laws, to ensure your team’s advice remains at the cutting edge.
  • Work with advisors to align financial planning strategies with clients’ long-term objectives, focusing on improving both the advisor and client experience.
  • Work closely with advisors during prospect meetings to demonstrate the strength and breadth of the firm’s financial planning capabilities.
  • Contribute to continuous improvements in internal processes and systems to increase team efficiency and enhance client satisfaction.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, particularly changes in tax laws and retirement planning strategies, ensuring the team remains educated on their implications for client plans.
  • Work with senior leadership to implement new processes across the team, ensuring smooth transitions and alignment with firm practices and policies.
  • Conduct semi-annual and annual performance reviews for Associate Directors of Financial Planning, Financial Planning Managers, Senior Financial Planners, and Financial Planning Associates, providing constructive feedback and setting development goals.
  • Collaborate with the Regional Director and Managing Director to discuss salary increases and performance bonuses for financial planning team members, based on feedback, team involvement, and quality of advice.
  • Work with team members to identify growth opportunities, strengths, and areas for improvement, providing ongoing career coaching to support professional development.
  • Monitor team performance to ensure adherence to department standards and timelines, addressing any performance issues in collaboration with leadership and implementing Performance Improvement Plans (PIPs) where necessary.
  • Participate in interviews for the Senior Financial Planner, Financial Planning Associate, and Financial Planning Intern positions.
  • Oversee and continue to enhance the use of Tableau and other tools to manage team capacity, ensuring efficient use of resources.
  • Stay updated on legislation changes (e.g., SECURE Act 2.0) and educate the firm on potential impacts.
  • Evaluate and implement updates to the financial planning tools and software used by the team, ensuring they remain efficient and effective.
  • Lead the development of new service offerings tailored to the regional client base, enhancing the firm’s capabilities in wealth management.
  • Lead client seminars and local events in the region to build relationships and provide educational support.
  • Actively support meetings to implement financial strategies for clients.
  • Work with local Centers of Influence to implement action plans for clients, ensuring smooth execution and strong client satisfaction.
