Trans Mountain Corporation operates Canada’s only pipeline system transporting oil products to the West Coast. We deliver approximately 890,000 barrels of petroleum products each day through a dual pipeline system of more than 1,150 kilometres of pipeline in Alberta, British Columbia and Washington state. Location: Calgary Head Office Department: Finance Reports to: Director, Finance Worker Type: Employee Schedule Type: Full-time Work Setting: In-office Trans Mountain is seeking a collaborative, motivated, and values driven individual to join our dynamic team as a Financial Operations Analyst. In this position, you will provide cost control, variance analysis, forecasting, budget preparation, and accurate reporting for assigned responsibility centers. You will work closely with Project Managers and Operations Supervisors to monitor costs and support Regional Directors in developing budgets aligned with corporate plans.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in Finance, Accounting, or related discipline.
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience.
  • Experience with ERP software, preferably Microsoft D365, as well as cost management and financial/accounting systems.
  • Experience with budgeting and cost control processes.
  • Knowledge of accounting, finance, and project controls principles.
  • Strong proficiency in Excel and spreadsheet analysis.
  • A consistent track record of delivering high‑quality work, managing competing priorities, and supporting key business processes or operational functions.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with colleagues and stakeholders from a variety of backgrounds and levels across the organization.
  • Effective communication skills, including the ability to convey information clearly, respectfully, and professionally.
  • Commitment to inclusive practices and a willingness to contribute positively to a collaborative and supportive workplace culture.

  • CPA or Project Controls Professional preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support the coordination of annual budget preparation, ensuring the timely and accurate provision of financial data to support operational needs.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to align budget planning with strategic objectives, including the development and execution of the 5-year corporate plan, driving long-term financial sustainability and organizational growth.
  • Ensure compliance with financial cycle deadlines by coordinating and executing quarterly forecast updates in collaboration with Project Managers, Operations Supervisors, and Regional Directors.
  • Maintain and update forecasts in Planning Analytics, performing monthly adjustments and fine-tuning projections to support informed decision-making and operational efficiency.
  • Lead the preparation of monthly accruals in collaboration with Admins and LEM Coordinators, ensuring accuracy and alignment with financial objectives.
  • Collaborate with Managers and Supervisors to gather and analyze monthly results, ensuring accuracy and alignment with financial objectives.
  • Conduct variance analysis against the budget plan and current forecast for the assigned responsibility centers, identifying cost trends, savings opportunities, and efficiencies to support strategic financial decision-making.
  • Compile and deliver monthly financial reports for area Director(s) and VP, ensuring accuracy, adherence to deadlines, and consistency in formatting aligned with other regional Financial Operations Analysts.
  • Set up requisitions and Project IDs, facilitating efficient financial tracking and operations.
  • Communicate and report Capital transfers to Managers and Supervisors, ensuring transparency and alignment with financial objectives.
  • Provide user support for D365, ensuring smooth navigation and utilization of system functionalities for managing operating budgets. Assist with the training of new system users, equipping them with the necessary skills to optimize workflow and ensure accurate recording of transactions.
