This role involves investigating insurance benefits, identifying coverage gaps, and exploring options to assist patients with their financial needs. The Financial Navigator develops financial plans with patients and their families, acting as a patient advocate throughout their treatment journey. They work to resolve potential out-of-pocket expenses for patients and help them overcome financial obstacles. A key aspect of this role is ensuring patient satisfaction by identifying needs for financial resources like Foundation and Grant Assistance, and maintaining records of these referrals. The position also involves pre-screening eligible patients for COBRA premium assistance, referring patients to other specialists such as Oncology Nurse Navigators, Social Workers, and the PAP Team when appropriate, and maintaining accurate financial reports for patient assistance programs. Additionally, the Financial Navigator is responsible for organizing community education on Financial Navigation services, assisting in the development of policies and procedures related to financial practices, and serving as a community advocate for awareness of insurance market trends and oncology resources.
