Financial Institution Examiner 9 - 12

State of Michigan•Lansing, MI

About The Position

The Department of Insurance and Financial Services (DIFS) is hiring two Financial Institution Examiners in the Office of Consumer Finance. Examiners regulate consumer financial services companies, including motor vehicle finance companies, money transfer services, mortgage companies, and payday lenders. They work directly with financial institution leaders to conduct examinations and help ensure compliance with state and federal regulations. The positions support consumer protection and public confidence in Michigan’s insurance and financial services industries, and offer opportunities to advance as experience and expertise grow. Candidates may be considered at entry level or at more experienced levels, based on their education and experience. The work includes compliance reviews and examinations at licensed entities’ offices throughout the United States, as well as assignments at the employee’s home office. Significant in-state and out-of-state travel, including overnight travel, is required. DIFS seeks candidates willing to reside within a two-hour drive of Lansing. Employees may advance to higher pay levels and become eligible for management opportunities. Candidates must submit a cover letter describing how their education or experience would make them a successful examiner and explaining their understanding of and interest in the position, a resume, and a copy of official college transcripts. Transcripts must show the institution’s name and address, degree and date conferred, coursework completed, and the Registrar’s signature and/or seal. A scanned or electronic copy is acceptable if it contains these elements. Failure to attach the requested documents may result in the application being screened out. Use of AI software is prohibited throughout the selection process, including application and interview responses or exercises; suspected use may result in screening out. Candidates who accept an offer must surrender any active DIFS-issued licenses because holding active licenses in regulated industries is considered a conflict of interest.
