About The Position

The Florida Gaming Control Commission is responsible for exercising all regulatory and executive powers of the state with respect to legal gaming, including pari-mutuel wagering, cardrooms, slot machine facilities, oversight of gaming compacts, and other forms of gambling authorized by state law, excluding the Lottery, as well as directly enforcing Florida’s gaming laws and combating illegal gambling activities. The agency is overseen by five Commissioners who are appointed by the Governor, with Commissioners appointing an Executive Director who leads a team of more than 200 staff members. The mission of the Florida Gaming Control Commission is to preserve and protect the integrity of gaming activities through fair regulation, licensing, effective criminal investigation, and enforcement. Requirements

  • Skills in Excel and Word.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret financial data.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and establish effective working relationships with others while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Ability to conduct research and prepare comprehensive reports utilizing problem-solving techniques.
  • Ability to effectively use computer software and hardware and apply technical innovations to existing programs.
  • Ability to create spreadsheets and graphs.
  • Ability to learn the Central Monitoring System (CMS) and utilize the system to create reports.
  • Ability to apply statutes and rules.
  • Four (4) years of professional experience in analyzing and interpreting financial data, revenue collections, conducting financial audits or reconciliations as described above; or
  • An associate's degree and two (2) years of professional experience as described above; or
  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a relevant field from an accredited college or university can substitute for the required experience.

Responsibilities

  • Reconciles monthly financial reports submitted by permit holders against Central Monitoring System (CMS) data to ensure accurate calculation, payment, and reporting of applicable taxes, fees, and available credits.
  • Reviews and analyzes Uniform Annual Reports (UARs), which assess the profitability and financial soundness of permit holders both individually and as an industry.
  • Performs Charity/Scholarship Day audits to ensure proper financial distribution of applicable taxes and fees. Audits include reviewing financial reports against CMS data, bank statements, general ledgers, and canceled checks. Also, verifying that financial obligations to eligible charities are met.
  • Ensures all reports meet applicable rules and statutes.
  • Scans financial audits and reconciliations into OnBase, ensuring documents are legible and indexed properly.
  • Compiles financial information for the Commission’s Annual Report timely and accurately as assigned.
  • Researches and prepares responses to information requests as needed.
  • Completes assigned training and maintains documentation for verification.
