About The Position

BMI Federal Credit Union is a not-for-profit financial cooperative providing banking services to our member-owners. Our goal is simple – to improve the financial well-being of our members and our community. This role is responsible for managing and growing the credit union’s financial coaching and education initiatives. The individual in this position is responsible for providing personalized 1-on-1 financial coaching to our members, oversees program administration and credentialing, develop educational resources and outreach strategies, and help coordinate workshops and community partnerships. The position also supports employee development, promotes financial wellness through marketing and community engagement, maintains program compliance and reporting, and collaborates across departments to expand the impact of financial education services while delivering exceptional member service.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Business, Marketing, Education, Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Family and Consumer Science, or related field strongly preferred; Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 1-3 years of related experience; a viable combination of experience and education will be considered
  • Hold or achieve Credit Union Certified Financial Counselor (CCUFC) credential
  • A clean driving record, reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and proof of auto insurance required
  • Ability to work a varied schedule (some early mornings, late nights, and weekend hours)
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision
  • Skill in oral presentations

  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Professional and proficient phone etiquette
  • Experience with or ability to learn graphic design platforms, interactive presentation software, communication platforms, survey tools, and digital marketing programs such as Canva, Mentimeter, Zoom, and Survey Monkey
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, general computer programs, and general office equipment
  • Skills in organization and planning
  • Ability to deal with others with courtesy, tact, and effectiveness – a member focus orientation/ philosophy
  • Ability to receive and maintain confidential information
  • Ability to operate standard office machines (e.g. calculator, copier, fax, etc.)
  • Must be able to sit, walk, stand, use hands to manipulate, handle, feel, and control items or equipment

Responsibilities

  • Conduct member consultations to assess their financial position and formulate a plan for the member to improve their individual situation.
  • Keep appropriate notes and records of financial coaching sessions and member progress towards goals.
  • Track and report financial counseling activities to the VP of Business & Community Development.
  • Schedule and attend site visits for one-on-one consultations, at members’ worksites or at a BMI FCU branch, as requested; also, assist with site visits as requested by the Business Development Department.
  • Manage communication with members regarding Financial Coaching Appointments.
  • Formalize, implement, manage, and monitor the evaluation of the Financial Coaching program.
  • Ensure the Financial Coaching section of the website is updated and is current, including the Financial Education Coaching Agreement and Scheduler.
  • Manage Certified Credit Union Financial Counselor (CCUFC) credentialing process with Training and Development Specialist.
  • Manage relationships with employees that hold the CCUFC including recognition, engagement in opportunities and tracking participation, and providing resources to support counseling.
  • Create a comprehensive/robust program centered around supporting staff development in obtaining and retaining the CCUFC credential.
  • Work with Training and Development Specialist to promote and support the Financial Coaching and Education bachelor’s degree as part of Dollars and Sense University.
  • Manage Financial Education materials.
  • Manage content and post on social media and other outreach methods to promote financial wellness and Financial Education Program, including community workshops and events.
  • Build and publish Financial Wellness Newsletter, with support from Marketing; maintain mailing list.
  • Serve as back-up and co-presenter when needed for Financial Education Workshops.
  • Provide input and assist in the promotion of community financial education workshops.
  • Collaborate with Specialist to write spotlight article on financial wellness topics.
  • Manage BMI FCU’s 3rd party partnerships with Banzai! And It’s A Money Thing, including monitoring content, evaluating new content/products, and contract status.
  • Support youth programming alongside the Fin Ed Specialist
  • Apply for local, state, and national financial education awards, recognition, & grants
  • Maintain and gain thorough knowledge of products and services, as well as any compliance regulations, philosophy, and organization structure applicable to job responsibilities on a self-directed basis.
  • Provide friendly, responsive service to all members; recommend appropriate products and services to benefit the member.
