The Financial Capability Intern supports the International Rescue Committee’s Financial Capability Program (FinCap), part of its Economic Empowerment Program. FinCap helps clients work toward financial independence through financial education, credit building, coaching, and low-interest loan products. Services cover topics such as banking, budgeting, savings, debt management, credit building, major purchases, investing, and asset building. The program also offers small-dollar consumer loans to empower participants and build confidence in managing personal finances. The intern provides financial coaching and counseling to program participants, helps connect clients with appropriate services, supports financial coaches and workshops, and leads a women’s financial empowerment program. The internship is for the Spring 2027 semester, requires at least three months and 20 hours per week, and prefers a commitment of 35 or more hours per week (40 hours per week is also stated as preferred). The preferred start date is January 25, 2027, with an in-person orientation scheduled that day. Internships in IRC Silver Spring are unpaid; eligible interns may receive a $15-per-day per diem reimbursement to offset food and travel costs. Applicants not enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program and more than 12 months past graduation may apply as volunteers. Selected applicants must complete background checks, and the posting asks them to make a $30 donation toward the associated costs.
