About The Position

The Financial Database & Analytics Specialist is responsible for the profiling, development, integration, and optimization of enterprise databases and reporting solutions that support financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, government reporting, performance measurement, and operational analysis. This position serves as the government's technical specialist in database profiling, data availability, systems integration, business intelligence, and analytical reporting, helping transform data from multiple systems into reliable information for decision-making across government.

Requirements

  • Strong proficiency in SQL, data extraction, transformation, and reporting development.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with the ability to translate reporting requirements into technical solutions.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel, Power Query, and financial data analysis tools.
  • Ability to assess data availability, relationships, and appropriate categorization across multiple systems.
  • Strong technical documentation and communication skills.
  • Understanding of financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, performance measurement, and government reporting environments.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Business Analytics, Economics, or related discipline.
  • Minimum 3-5 years progressive financial analysis, database development or relevant experience.
  • Experience with business intelligence and visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, SSRS, or equivalent.
  • An equivalent combination of education, professional certifications, and progressively responsible experience may be considered
  • Must undergo a Criminal Record Check
  • Valid Saskatchewan driver’s license and access reliable transportation

Responsibilities

  • Profiles, develop, maintains, and optimizes enterprise databases, data models, and reporting structures that support financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, government reporting, operational analysis, and performance measurement.
  • Supports the integration of data across finance, payroll, human resource, procurement, project management, funding agreement, and other government systems.
  • Provides technical and analytical support for budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, funding agreement reporting, trend analysis, key performance indicators, and executive reporting.
  • Works closely with Finance to ensure reliable information is available to support financial planning, resource allocation, reporting obligations, and decision-making.
  • Develops and maintains reports, dashboards, data extracts, automated reporting solutions, and analytical models that support government-wide reporting requirements.
  • Translate business requirements into practical database structures, queries, reporting tools, and business intelligence solutions that improve accessibility and use of information while maintaining data security, privacy protection standards.
  • Improves the accuracy, consistency, reliability, and accessibility of enterprise data used for financial and operational reporting.
  • Identifies opportunities to streamline reporting processes, automate recurring reporting requirements, reduce manual effort, and improve the efficiency of data collection and analysis activities across government.
  • Develops and maintains technical documentation related to databases, data models, data flows, and system integrations.
  • Works collaboratively with ministries, departments, program areas, internal consulting teams, external consulting teams, Information Technology, and system vendors to assess data availability, recommend appropriate data structures and classifications, and support reporting and analytical requirements.
