About The Position

South Sound Behavioral Hospital is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Financial Counselor to join their team. This role is crucial for ensuring the verification of benefits and eligibility for admission inquiries, preparing admission folders, and collecting co-pays and deductibles from patients. The Financial Counselor will also be responsible for establishing payment plans, coordinating with utilization review and discharge planning, providing patient benefit information, participating in discharge procedures, and coordinating financial arrangements with collection personnel.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalent required.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience in admission processes and collections procedures.
  • Working knowledge of managed care.
  • Working knowledge of interpretation of insurance coverage plans, co-payments and deductible schedules and payment plans.
  • Working knowledge of computers and business software programs (Excel) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately verify benefits and eligibility on admission inquiries.
  • Prepare admission folders.
  • Collect co-pays/deductibles from patients.
  • Assist with establishing effective and timely payment plans.
  • Coordinate with utilization review and discharge planning efforts to limit risk of non-payment.
  • Provide ongoing patient benefit information.
  • Participate in patient discharge procedures.
  • Coordinate financial arrangements with collection personnel.
