About The Position

As a Financial Counselor, you will play a key role in supporting patients by helping manage their accounts with care and accuracy. This involves verifying insurance, guiding patients through their financial options, and assisting with both insurance and self-pay billing and collections. The role is part of a collaborative, team-oriented environment where clear communication and attention to detail are essential. You will work closely with the financial team and other departments to ensure a smooth office flow and a positive experience for every patient. The Financial Counselor provides compassionate and knowledgeable financial guidance throughout the patient's treatment journey, focusing on patient retention, creative problem-solving, and building ongoing relationships to help patients navigate financial aspects of care with confidence. With an emphasis on empathy and accuracy, the Financial Counselor ensures each patient receives the necessary support.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated knowledge of third-party and insurance company operating procedures, regulations and billing requirements
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite and Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system
  • Ability to effectively establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships
  • Effectively prioritize competing responsibilities, with a sensitivity toward matters which are time sensitive
  • Exercise a high level of discretion and sensitivity to patient privacy
  • Ability to recognize, evaluate, solve problems and correct errors
  • High School diploma or equivalent is required
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience offering financial counseling in a health care related field

Responsibilities

  • Verifying insurance
  • Guiding patients through their financial options

  • Setting up and managing payment plans
  • Assisting with insurance benefit verification and authorizations
  • Helping patients complete insurance and financial assistance applications
  • Serving as a liaison between patients, internal departments, and insurance carriers
  • Ensuring clear communication and prompt resolution of account-related questions
  • Collecting and processing payments
  • Issuing refunds
  • Maintaining accurate documentation and spreadsheets
  • Ensuring all processes align with departmental guidelines
