The Student Financial Services Counselor’s primary duties are to counsel and advise students and parents on the Financial Aid Process and award aid in accordance with institutional, state, and federal guidelines. Requirements

  • Ability to multi-task, organize, manage time effectively, and keep tasks appropriately prioritized
  • Ability to work with, assist, lead, and take directions from others in the interest of operating Financial Aid Office to its optimal efficiency
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with all staff, students, faculty, and visitors in sometimes stressful situations
  • Work cooperatively and respectfully with both internal and external contacts

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual counseling to students and families regarding financial aid options, eligibility, application procedures, and award packages.
  • Evaluate financial aid applications to determine eligibility for federal, state, and institutional aid programs.
  • Process concurrent enrollment tuition waivers for eligible students.
  • Assist students in completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and other necessary forms.
  • Conduct informational workshops and presentations on financial aid topics.
  • Verify accuracy and completeness of information provided on financial aid forms, including income verification and tax documentation.
  • Award financial aid packages in accordance with regulatory guidelines and institutional policies.
  • Exercise professional judgment to make adjustments to financial aid eligibility based on special circumstances, such as changes in family income, employment status, or other extenuating situations.
  • Monitor and evaluate students’ academic progress to ensure compliance with satisfactory academic progress (SAP) standards.
  • Counsel students who are not meeting SAP standards on the necessary steps to regain financial aid eligibility.
  • Active participation in professional development activities.
  • Assist with other staff efforts to maximize office effectiveness.
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
