About The Position

Tampa Family Health Centers is seeking a Financial Counselor to join their team. This role is crucial in ensuring patients can access affordable care by determining insurance eligibility, conducting financial screenings, and guiding patients through various payment options. The Financial Counselor will collaborate with front office, clinical, and support teams to uphold compliance, enhance access to care, and ensure a smooth patient experience.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and basic computer systems.
High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
Ability to handle sensitive information with professionalism and discretion.
Comfortable working in a fast-paced, patient-focused environment.

Nice To Haves

Previous experience in healthcare financial counseling, insurance verification, or patient access preferred.

Responsibilities

Screen patients for insurance coverage and verify income eligibility.
Complete financial re-screens and update demographics and pay categories in the system.
Review uninsured patients and establish appropriate payment plans and expiration dates.
Obtain insurance authorizations and coordinate with registration staff.
Provide patients with required financial documentation and correspondence.
Ensure sliding fee scale patients complete required acknowledgements.
Coordinate emergency visit authorizations as needed.
Maintain strict patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA standards.
Support front office operations as needed during slower periods.
Recall patients for required screenings based on pay plan guidelines.
Participate in team meetings and support TFHC’s Mission, Vision, and Values.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
