About The Position

This Financial Counselor is responsible for the daily review of Patient Registrations to ensure all authorizations, benefit information and communication to the patient with respect to their out of pocket expense has occurred prior to services being provided. Using knowledge of complex billing and benefit information, the Financial Counselor communicates with the patient. The Financial Counselor evaluates patient out of pocket expense, communicates this to the patient in a "Patient Friendly" manner, and collects monies up front prior to services being rendered. This position makes payment arrangements and answers complex billing questions with support of the patient accounts department. When needed the Financial Counselor will discuss prior account balances with the patient and try to collect those balances or make payment arrangements. Acts as a liaison to departments. Responsible for other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma required plus four (4) years healthcare industry experience OR, Associates degree plus two (2) years healthcare industry experience
  • Two (2) years scheduling and hospital registration experience, including experience in government and commercial insurance program, Third Party Payor, Medicare, MediCal, and other regulatory knowledge
  • Demonstrates clear, courteous and pleasant communication skills with appropriate usage of grammar, pronunciation and tone
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • High level of self-motivation and goal oriented with the ability to multitask
  • Team oriented
  • Positive, open-minded, and focused on continuous improvement
  • Ability to learn new processes, procedures and software programs quickly, while demonstrating attention to detail and accuracy
  • Analytical and problem solving skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and comfort with navigating multiple applications simultaneously
  • Able to type 40 wpm
