About The Position

The Financial Counselor position, under the direct supervision of the Admitting Manager, is responsible for establishing a payer source and collecting patient-owed amounts for services rendered at John Muir Health facilities. This role involves identifying, explaining, and advising patients on potential third-party payer sources and establishing appropriate payment arrangements. John Muir Health is a nationally recognized, not-for-profit health care organization serving Contra Costa, Alameda, and southern Solano Counties, with a network of over 1,000 physicians and 6,300 employees. Its facilities include the Walnut Creek Medical Center (554-bed trauma center), Concord Medical Center (247-bed acute care facility), the Behring Pavilion housing the UCSF-John Muir Health Jean and Ken Hofmann Cancer Center, a 73-bed psychiatric hospital, and numerous primary care and outpatient sites. Requirements

• High School Graduate, Equivalent, or Equivalent Experience Required
• 2 years Information Technology - PC Specialist Required
• 2 years Revenue Cycle - Third Party Payers Required
• Good interpersonal and customer relations skills
• Good spelling and Grammar skills
• Keyboard by touch

Responsibilities

• Establishing a payer source for services rendered at the facility
• Collecting patient-owed amounts for services rendered at the facility
• Identifying possible third-party payer sources for patients
• Explaining possible third-party payer sources to patients
• Advising patients on possible third-party payer sources
• Establishing payment arrangements with patients when appropriate
