About The Position

Responsible for verifying insurance coverage and estimating patient responsibility for patients being admitted for inpatient or outpatient services and to provide the A&R staff with the most accurate data based on the information provided. Duties include preparing billing packets, interviewing patients to verify demographic and insurance data is accurate from the information provided by A&R. Patient Account Representatives must meet with patients either in the outpatient or inpatient unit to collect patient out-of-pocket expenses and/or to apply them for medical assistance when the need arises.

Requirements

  • High school degree or equivalent required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology and insurance billing.
  • All direct patient care staff will be trained in BLS (CPR), which must be renewed every 2 years.
  • All staff, both clinical and non-clinical, will be trained in CPI as part of their orientation. All direct patient care staff will be retrained every year.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patients at all times.
  • Proficiency with software and/or equipment (Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.)
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to prioritize projects, work relatively independently, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to work with people with a variety of background and educational levels.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good judgment, problem solving and decision-making skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years’ healthcare experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of CPT/ICD-10 coding helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Pre-verify insurance information for patients being referred to facility for treatment.
  • Interview incoming patients or relatives to obtain pertinent data and verify insurance coverage.
  • Enter data into computer system with accuracy.
  • Prepare and complete billing packets.
  • Prepare and balance outpatient and inpatient daily stats and update reports accordingly.
  • Estimate patient responsibility and provide financial options to patients and authorized family members on admission.
  • Set up payment arrangements with self-pay patients.
  • Collect payments when applicable.
  • Enter payments in online payment system.
  • Prepare and ensure billing packets are complete, scan and index in Doclink for daily discharges.
  • Open all mail pertaining to the Business Office, enter comment for authorization, denials and EOB’s.
  • Scan mail in Doclink and file in monthly Business Office folder.
  • Prepare deposits for any cash or checks received at physical location.
  • Review AR for overpayments and if applicable prepare patient or insurance refund.
  • Respond to all emails from the CBO for claim resolution in a timely manner.
  • Download reports from AIS and work in proper format.
