Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum two (2) to three (3) years' experience working in Patient Access or Patient Accounting for hospital registration and / or hospital reimbursement services
  • Obtain National certification in HFMA CRCR and/or NAHAM CHAA required within one (1) year of hire.
  • Understanding of basic billing and coding.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree or advanced certification or a combination of advanced training and/or certification (e.g., Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse, Certified Pharmacy Technician, Registered Health Information Technician, or medical coding certification through AHIMA or AAPC
  • Epic experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of federal or state government agencies including but not limited to Medicare, Medicaid, VA or Charity Care programs, or patient management and healthcare accounts receivable within the healthcare revenue cycle

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a financial advocate for patients, bridging Revenue Site Operations and Patient Financial Services to determine financial liability and secure payment solutions.
  • Counsel patients on treatment costs, insurance coverage, and available financial assistance, helping them understand and navigate their options.
  • Coordinate and obtain complex pre-authorizations for high-cost infusion and oncology services, working closely with physicians, payers, and pharmaceutical partners.
  • Verify medical necessity, diagnosis codes, and prior therapy requirements in alignment with established clinical guidelines.
  • Assist patients in accessing financial resources such as payment plans, grants, co-pay assistance, and specialty drug programs.
  • Manage assigned patient accounts throughout the revenue cycle, ensuring financial assistance claims, payments, and denials are handled accurately.
  • Track and support programs related to free or reduced-cost medications for eligible patients.
  • Partner with care teams to address the financial impact of treatment plans and support complex financial clearance needs.
  • Collaborate with leadership to improve financial processes and optimize patient collections.
