About The Position

The Financial Counselor Specialist (FCS) will educate and equip patients with financial options to satisfy outstanding medical bills by collecting/processing payments or applying them for the financial assistance program. As well, the FCS will support deceased processes, settlement offers and financial assistance/uninsured guarantor management among many other areas of expertise. The role is to provide prompt, accurate, and courteous answers to patients, families, or guarantors questions while continuing to develop a strong relationship between the organization and our customers. FCS is responsible for training and educating new financial counselors. This position is responsible for processing charity applications and holds the authority to adjust accounts based on charity approval.

Requirements

  • Education required: High school diploma or GED
  • Experience: 3 to 5 years working experience within healthcare Revenue Cycle of Hospital or Physician office billing and collection processes including customer service, billing, and follow-up processes strongly preferred.
  • Proven applicable experience working in an environment that utilizes electronic billing, internal report archives, and tools for applicable database management strongly preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and attention to detail as well as the ability to work as a member of a team or independently as necessary with little supervision.
  • Proficient knowledge of the impact that customer service and financial advisement/collections have on Revenue Cycle operations and financial performance.
  • Proficient application knowledge of Excel, Word, Outlook and/or Zimbra
  • Proficient understanding of medical terminology, medical billing practices and billing reimbursement along with knowledge of insurance policies.
  • Capacity to navigate stressful situations with ease along with proven applicable experience of preparing complex correspondence to resolve accounts.
  • Excellent communication skills verbally, written, and interpersonal with internal Hospital departments, Physician Offices, Patient, and Insurance payors strongly preferred.
  • Must be able to effectively manage a large volume of accounts while maintaining a high accuracy and positive outcomes.
  • Dedication to treating both internal and external constituents as clients and customers, maintaining a flexible customer service approach and orientation that emphasizes service and satisfaction and quality.
