About The Position

The Financial Counselor is responsible for reviewing hospital admissions and pre-admissions to ensure accuracy of financial and demographic documentation is entered into computer system. Responsibilities will include screening patients for possible charity, uninsured discount, HPE Medi-Cal, ensuring that all the necessary forms that are required, were completed on every patient and procedure. Provides application and refers patient to the appropriate department/person/vendor for follow up.

Requirements

Minimum two years’ experience in a hospital admitting or medical business office required
Experience with HMO and self pay collections
Experience in screening patient for various state and county assistance programs
Knowledge of medical terminology
Knowledge of insurance benefits, covered services, billing, and collection procedures for all insurance programs for acute facilities
Essential knowledge of California collection law, insurance billing and reimbursement rules / regulations, COBRA, EMTALA and federal / state regulations
Computer experience preferred
Prior Collection experience preferred
High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred.
