About The Position

JOB DESCRIPTION: The Financial Counselor II will be responsible for providing an adequate, and comprehensive financial screening office for patients in a clinical specialty of the Emory Clinic, Inc. to secure maximum reimbursement through up front identification and collection of patient liabilities. Monitors in-house accounts to improve revenue and timely payment of claims. Complete cost estimates and follow guidelines associated with pre-payment process. Maintains patient confidentiality; complies with HIPAA and compliance guidelines established by Emory Healthcare. Financial Counseling II position must have knowledge of all aspects of Emory Healthcare processes from registration to billing. The Financial Counselor II will be responsible for interacting with section staff, patients and Financial Counselors to assure team efforts in the care and handling of all patients that are in need of making financial arrangements, account inquiry, account reconciliation (which includes extensive auditing). Responsible for financially clearing patients prior to their visits by collecting payment or determining insurance eligibility. Acts as a liaison between PFS and clinic operations to resolve customer inquiries related to billing and customer satisfaction in a timely matter. Complete cost estimates and follow guidelines associated with pre-payment process. Responsible for training new staff members and performing monthly audits for Financial Counselor I. The Financial Counselor II will serve as a central resource for the section faculty and staff, outside physicians, EUH, CWL, and outside departments in the education of financial and insurance requirements that may impact the specialties clinical practice, processes, and monetary viability. Provide back up for other sections and coverage for satellite clinics for assigned when required. Complete COBRA forms and other needed documentation in a timely matter. Collaborate with Social Workers and Clinical staff regarding patient resources when required. Perform all aspects of benefits verification. Requires knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid and Third Party carriers and referrals and precertification procedures. Employee may be responsible for other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma and minimum of four (4) years healthcare experience, 2 of which must be in patient financial services; OR any combination of equivalent education and experience
