About The Position

The Manager, Financial Counseling will provide strategic and operational leadership for the Financial Counseling and Financial Clearance functions across Baptist Health. This individual will oversee the teams responsible for inpatient rounding, point-of-service collections, charity and Medicaid screening, financial assistance, benefit verification, eligibility, pre-registration, and cost of care discussions. The Manager will collaborate closely with Physician Practices, service line leaders, and operational stakeholders to promote an efficient, patient-centered financial clearance process that supports revenue integrity and organization financial performance. Additionally, the Manager will be accountable to motivate and develop staff to achieve high levels of customer satisfaction, operational accuracy, and compliance with all federal, state, and organizational policies. This position may have additional duties assigned that are within scope of the role.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 7 years’ experience in a medical business office patient access, medical billing, collections, or related revenue cycle environment required.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and develop high-performing teams in a fast-paced healthcare environment while fostering accountability, service excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to conduct sensitive financial discussions and collaborate effectively with diverse patient populations and cross-functional teams.
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving ability with the capacity to manage multiple priorities, meet strict deadlines, and maintain accuracy in a high-volume, multi-site environment.
  • Proficient in hospital registration, billing, and accounting systems; experience with insurance billing and collections workflows; strong MS Office skills; comfortable navigating payer portals and financial assistance platforms.
  • Strong working knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payer rules, including eligibility, benefits, and authorization requirements.
  • Ability to remain composed and solution-focused in high-stress or emotionally charged situations, including escalations related to financial responsibility.
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision while contributing effectively within a team-based multi-site operational environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Degree in Business Administration or Healthcare Administration preferred.
  • Certified Healthcare Access Manager (CHAM) preferred
