About The Position
RSM's Real Estate Finance as a Service (FaaS) practice is looking for skilled professionals to join us at the Senior Associate level. RSM’s Real Estate FaaS blends the best of both worlds by providing candidates with all the career growth opportunities that come with working for a public accounting firm, while at the same time operating in private company environments daily. We provide accounting, technology and consulting services to private, middle market clients, with real estate assets under management ranging from $50 million to $200 billion. In other words, we are the accounting department for our clients. Our diverse real estate industry base includes developers, private equity asset managers, property operators, and family offices. This position will need to work to deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities, such as month end close, financial reporting, year-end audit support, and the support of budget and forecasting activities. In addition, you will have the ability to learn and efficiently use our best-in-class cloud based technology stack. FaaS Senior Associates will have contact with our clients (CEO, COO, CFO, VP of Finance, Controller, etc.), as well as other client contacts including tax and professional service providers. We operate in a team-based environment and have a proven track record of delivering exceptional value to our customers.
Requirements
- A minimum of a Bachelor's in Accounting or Finance is required
- Experience performing property-level accounting and finance functions required
- Experience working with property managers to resolve accounting issues, address concerns, and explain variances required
- Experience in Real Estate technology systems is required (i.e., Yardi, MRI, etc.)
- Excellent written and oral communication skills are a must (proactively communicates status, issues, conflicts, and priorities up, down and across the engagement team)
- Ability to balance multiple responsibilities simultaneously plus excellent analytical and decision making skills
- Proficiency utilizing Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
- Strong organizational skills along with the ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to adapt to change effectively
- Experience with automated accounting systems (i.e., Yardi, MRI, Blackline, FloQast, Basis)
Nice To Haves
- Experience in a public accounting firm, consulting firm or other professional services environment preferred but not required
- Pursuing CPA or a CPA is preferred but not required
Responsibilities
- Key point of contact for our clients
- Purchase to Pay, Order to Cash and Month End Close cycles
- Work in client technology environments as well as within the FaaS tech stack
- Lead, manage and coach client services representatives and associates
- Review monthly journal entries prepared by support staff for prepaid expenses, fixed asset, accrued expenses, payroll, and / or inventory transactions, as applicable, in an accurate and timely manner
- Understand the purpose of reconciliations. Approve bank reconciliations and general ledger account reconciliations
- Prepare/Review client’s monthly financial statements including month-over-month variance analysis and budget-vs-actual analysis
- Analyze and interpret financial information for client management and provide actionable insight and decision support
- Continuously identify opportunities to enhance the clients’ monthly operations and make suggestions for process improvements
- Define and document repeatable methodologies with appropriate tools and templates that can be leveraged for future projects
- Understand our technology stack and identify additional add-on processes, systems, modules and integrations that can drive month end close efficiencies
