About The Position

The Financial Close System Analyst runs the continuous financial close for the insurance subledger product across UK and US entities, covering month-, quarter-, and year-end closes. The role monitors and troubleshoots data pipelines, traces data issues using SQL, reconciles subledger data to source systems and the general ledger, and explains issues, impacts, and required actions to Finance and Operations in clear language. When engineering fixes cannot be delivered before a deadline or data quality issues were not caught before hand-off, the analyst applies documented, controlled manual corrections with before-and-after evidence and a true-up plan. The position also coordinates close-calendar tasks and dependencies, communicates close status and impacts, tracks issues through resolution, and leads post-close reviews and improvement follow-through with Finance, Operations, and Engineering.

Requirements

  • At least 4 years of experience in financial systems, data analysis, or finance technology.
  • Advanced SQL skills, including CTEs, window functions, reconciliation, and performance tuning.
  • Pipeline troubleshooting experience; Azure DevOps Pipelines preferred, with Airflow, dbt, SSIS, or similar also relevant.
  • Working knowledge of EP, IBNR, accruals, reserves, and subledger-to-GL flows.
  • Strong communication skills with non-technical audiences.
  • Experience with ticketing tools such as Azure Boards, Jira, or similar, and clear documentation habits.
  • Comfort facilitating post-mortems and driving follow-through across Finance, Operations, and Engineering.

Nice To Haves

  • Insurance or reinsurance experience is strongly preferred.
  • Python for validation and reconciliation scripts.
  • Exposure to actuarial or reserving data feeds.
  • Multi-entity or multi-currency close experience, including UK/US.

Responsibilities

  • Run and monitor UK and US month-, quarter-, and year-end closes against the close calendar.
  • Maintain the subledger close calendar, including task owners, dependencies, and cutoff dates for both entities.
  • Diagnose pipeline errors in Azure DevOps, including failed runs, late or duplicate feeds, mapping issues, and cutoff issues, and identify root causes.
  • Use SQL to reconcile subledger data to source systems and the general ledger.
  • Validate and explain Earned Premium (EP) and IBNR calculations, including period-over-period movement.
  • Apply documented manual fixes with before-and-after evidence and a true-up plan.
  • Provide daily close communications covering status, dollar impact of open issues, required actions, and ETAs.
  • Partner with the Business Analyst to build data extracts and exhibits for Finance.
  • Create and track bug tickets for issues found during each close and follow them through to resolution with Engineering.
  • Lead post-mortems after each close, document what went wrong, and propose and track process and pipeline improvements.
  • Work with Finance and Operations between closes to ensure open issues and improvements are addressed in a timely manner.
