About The Position

AARP is seeking a Financial & Business Operations Advisor for its Community, State, and National Affairs (CSN) group. This strategic role provides comprehensive financial operations support, including budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and analysis for a large business unit with a significant multi-million-dollar budget. The advisor will transform complex financial data into clear presentations for senior leaders, acting as a trusted financial advisor for state offices and field teams. Key responsibilities include managing financial planning and analysis, supporting the procurement and contracting lifecycle, ensuring compliance, and partnering with various finance and shared services departments. The role also focuses on streamlining financial processes, enhancing reporting tools, and improving the efficiency of financial operations within the CSN group.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in financial operations, including financial planning, procurement, accounting, and accounts payable.
  • Demonstrated experience managing, analyzing, and manipulating large, complex data sets to support budgeting, forecasting, and reporting.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including complex formulas with vlookups and data analysis techniques.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify trends and provide actionable insights.
  • Experience creating and delivering training or presentations for geographically dispersed audiences.
  • Excellent customer service skills, with the ability to work effectively in a highly matrixed organization across multiple locations.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares, consolidates, and reports on annual operating, salary, and capital budgets, serving as a liaison for monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statements.
  • Summarizes the financial status of the business unit or department, identifying causes of significant variances between budget and actuals.
  • Conducts multi-year financial planning and generates financial forecasts and budgets by identifying key assumptions and dependencies, analyzing variances, and collaborating with other teams.
  • Improves business performance by analyzing operational and financial data, generating forecasts and budgets, and analyzing trends in revenues, expenses, and other business areas.
  • Compiles and reviews departmental budgets, ensuring compliance with allocations, maintaining accurate spending records, and establishing budgetary control measures.
  • Provides oversight or executes processes and/or systems that support financial operations.
  • Processes and prepares accounting entries, reviews and audits financial statements and reports, ensures accuracy of calculations and data entries, and reconciles general ledger accounts.
  • Responds to internal client inquiries on financial systems, policies, and procedures, and conducts financial training.
