About The Position

The University of New Mexico Comprehensive Cancer Center seeks a highly analytical and collaborative, and intellectually curious professional to join the Business Performance & Insights team within the Fiscal Services Department as a Financial Analyst. In this role, you will provide financial analysis and strategic decision support that informs executive, operational, and clinical leadership across the Cancer Center. You will develop budgets, forecasts, financial models, pro forma analyses, dashboards, and performance reports that help evaluate new initiatives, optimize resource utilization, and improve organizational performance. Working collaboratively with stakeholders across finance, clinical, operational, and administrative areas, you will transform complex financial and operational data into meaningful insights that support informed decision-making and advance the Cancer Center's mission. Leveraging strong analytical, financial modeling, and data visualization skills, you will identify trends, evaluate business performance, and communicate actionable recommendations to diverse audiences. Success in this role requires intellectual curiosity, sound business judgment, and the ability to translate complex financial information into clear, strategic insights that support the Cancer Center's goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in healthcare finance, academic medicine, hospital operations, physician practice management, or related healthcare environments.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including PivotTables, advanced formulas, Power Query, data modeling, and dashboard development.
  • Knowledge of healthcare reimbursement methodologies, payer mix analysis, service line profitability, provider productivity metrics, and revenue cycle concepts.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience developing business cases, financial models, and pro forma analyses to support strategic and operational decision-making.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate data into a concise narrative that identifies key drivers, business implications, risks, opportunities, and recommended actions for leadership decision-making.
  • Experience collaborating across finance, operations, clinical, and information technology teams to support organizational objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Support the annual budgeting process, periodic forecasting, and long-range financial planning for assigned departments and programs.
  • Prepare financial forecasts, variance analyses, and executive reports that provide meaningful insight into organizational performance.
  • Develop financial models, pro forma analyses, and business cases to evaluate new programs, services, staffing models, capital investments, and strategic initiatives.
  • Serve as a trusted financial partner to executive leadership, clinical leaders, and operational departments by providing analytical support for strategic and operational decision-making.
  • Evaluate financial and operational performance, identify trends, risks, and opportunities, and provide actionable recommendations.
  • Present financial analyses and recommendations to audiences with varying levels of financial expertise.
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance dashboards, scorecards, key performance indicators (KPIs), and management reports that monitor financial and operational performance.
  • Analyze financial, operational, productivity, and volume data to identify opportunities for improvement and support organizational goals.
  • Ensure the accuracy, integrity, and consistency of financial and operational data used for reporting and decision-making.
  • Collaborate with finance, clinical, operational, research, and administrative teams to understand business needs and deliver meaningful analytical solutions.
  • Build effective working relationships with stakeholders and serve as a resource for financial analysis, reporting, and performance measurement.
  • Translate complex financial and operational information into concise, actionable insights that support informed decision-making.
  • Identify opportunities to improve reporting processes, automate recurring analyses, and enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of financial operations.
  • Partner with Fiscal team members and information technology resources to improve data quality, reporting capabilities, and business intelligence tools.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen financial planning, operational performance, and organizational effectiveness.
