About The Position

The Financial Analyst supports the District Attorney’s Office by performing a wide range of financial, statistical, and budgetary analysis tasks. This role plays a critical part in developing, monitoring, and administering the department’s annual budget, forecasting revenues and expenditures, preparing grant applications, managing awarded grants, overseeing operational financial processes, and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. The position also maintains financial records, prepares quarterly and annual financial reports for grants, monitors budget activity, and provides management with timely and accurate financial analyses. The Financial Analyst collaborates closely with internal staff, county departments, grant managers, and external partners.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of working with state and federal grants, including grant budgeting, compliance, reporting requirements, and grantor communication.
  • Local government budgeting, fiscal management, and administration.
  • Government finance and accounting principles and procedures; GAAP.
  • Revenue and expenditure forecasting methods and models.
  • Financial analysis and forecasting techniques.
  • Applicable federal, state, and local laws, including requirements for federal awards.

  • A Bachelor's Degree in finance, accounting, economics, statistics, or a related field; AND two (2) years of progressively responsible professional experience performing budgetary or financial analysis, or auditing; OR An Associate's Degree in finance, accounting, economics, statistics, or a related field; AND four (4) years of progressively responsible professional experience performing budgetary or financial analysis, or auditing; OR Six (6) years of progressively responsible professional experience performing budgetary or financial analysis, or auditing, of which at least four (4) years of experience must be in the public sector.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct detailed analysis during annual budget development, including reviewing personnel costs, estimating program revenues and expenditures, preparing budget scenarios, ensuring narrative accuracy, and developing mid-year and year end estimates.
  • Monitor the department’s adopted budget and prepare adjustments as needed; identify and correct general ledger errors and prepare appropriate journal entries.
  • Assist with all phases of grant application and administration—draft budgets, ensure compliance with grantor requirements, facilitate grant acceptance, set up tracking systems, monitor expenditures, prepare quarterly reports, and support audit processes.
  • Prepare and process contracts related to grant activities.
  • Oversee operational financial functions including expenditure approvals, account coding accuracy, p card transactions, vendor orders, accounts receivable management, discovery fee processing, and weekly deposit preparation.
  • Prepare and distribute monthly discovery fee statements, respond to inquiries from defense attorneys, and manage collections when necessary.
  • Track victim emergency funds, petty cash, gift cards, and related items to ensure proper authorization and fiscal controls
