About The Position

The Financial Analyst in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering supports the department’s financial operations, budget management, and account oversight across a broad range of funding sources. This position will work directly with the Director, Department Chair, faculty, and administrative staff to monitor departmental accounts, prepare financial reports, support budget planning and forecasting, facilitate contracts, and ensure financial activity is consistent with University policy and funding guidelines. The position also serves as a key financial resource for departmental staff and supervises procurement support functions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field.
  • Fives years of progressively responsible experience in financial or accounting with experience equivalent in planning, forecasting or financial analysis
  • Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills and the ability to multi-task
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate administrative information to technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization.
  • Strong listening skills and a focus on customer advocacy.
  • Extensive experience with Microsoft Office products.
  • Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Responsibilities

  • Manage Department accounts; work with state, available university fund (AUF), designated funds, sponsored project, gift and endowment accounts.
  • Monitor discrepancies with account balances recorded by the Accounting and Financial Management and Cockrell School of Engineering; review accounts for overages or deficits, insufficient funds, incorrect object codes, and old encumbrances; maintain stopgap and clearing accounts; manage Expense Account Certification; maintain accounting records for all Department accounts, including state, AUF, designated tuition, endowment, gift, indirect cost return, grant, summer, instructional, etc.; provide statistical reports to the Director, Chair, and Dean’s Office as requested; function as the main Cost Center Manager for departmental accounts.
  • Manage the Department’s operating, indirect cost return, designated tuition, gift, and endowment budgets in conjunction with the Director. This includes preparing and processing all budgetary documents, including budgets, status quo, teaching, supplemental, and summer budgets; providing periodic budget reports to the Chair and Director; and processing Faculty Costing Allocation changes for one-month deferrals and summer salary.
  • Analyze accounts and overhead; forecast expenditures/income; assist the research administration manager with account maintenance across research units.
  • Maintain accounting processes for service centers; assist professors with effort certification; assist in creating and maintaining the CERC Computer service center budget, rate calculation, and expenses.
  • Assist in reviewing and approving budget transfers within funding guidelines.
  • Produce and review department and University interdepartmental transfers; troubleshoot departmental account issues; serve as a resource and provide training to ECE administrative staff; assist with review and approval of all documents generated in DEFINE and FRMS.
  • Assist with coding schematic; prepare IF2 reports and various Excel statistical reports, including budget planning and forecasting.
  • Prepare LP2 entries per status quo budget; serve as Electronic Office Management and Organizational Hierarchy System manager, managing desk access and routing settings in EOM and OHS; serve as primary departmental point of contact and facilitator of departmental contracts.
  • Supervise the Senior Procurement Officer position.
  • Other related functions as assigned.
