About The Position

The Housing Authority of the City of Salem has an excellent opportunity for an experienced Financial Analyst to be part of the Salem Housing Authority (SHA) accounting team. The Financial Analyst is responsible for applying accounting principles and procedures. The successful candidate must be detail-oriented, self-motivated, and capable of analyzing codes and regulations to make financial decisions. The Financial Analyst performs high-level accounting services in property accounting, grant management, financial reporting, and internal controls, reconciling the general ledger, maintaining federal fixed asset inventory control records, and fund-based accounting system setup.

Requirements

  • Must pass the pre-employment background check.
  • Must have reliable transportation (e.g., carpool, rideshare, public transit, walking, biking) to report to and from work sites, events, trainings, and meetings.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in public administration, business administration, or a related field, and five years of experience in an accounting, finance, audits, or related field, or any combination of experience and training that demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skill and abilities as listed, and ability to perform the examples of work.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using Power BI or Tableau for business data analysis or reporting
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Experience analyzing or presenting financial reports
  • Experience building, maintaining or querying relational databases using SQL
  • Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA), or degree in business analytics

Responsibilities

  • Review financial data for trends and variances.
  • Analyze results to evaluate effectiveness of operations and identify potential improvements.
  • Possesses strong data analysis skills with the ability to organize, summarize and communicate findings and results.
  • Reconcile client data across sources and systems to ensure accurate balances.
  • Assist with preparing and reviewing annual budgets for a variety of programs and developments.
  • Attention to detail in performing calculations to ensure accuracy of ledgers and reports.
  • Setting up financial reports and designing them for accuracy and sustainability.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in learning systems and applying skills for streamlining processes.
  • Prior experience in Power BI, Excel, SQL, and Access preferred.
  • Highly motivated and takes initiative for improvements.
  • Interest in learning processes and working with team members to enhance process flows.
  • Experience demonstrating self-motivation and leadership, exercising considerable initiative and making independent judgements.
  • Knowledge of analyzing, researching, organizing, and compiling data into meaningful reports.
  • Experience working independently while effectively managing assigned responsibilities.
