About The Position

Equestrian Canada (EC), the national governing body for equestrian sport and industry, is seeking an experienced finance professional to join our team. In the key role of Financial Analyst, you will lead the day-to-day accounting operations of the organization, deliver accurate and timely financial reporting, and help strengthen the financial processes that support equestrian sport across the country. The Financial Analyst coordinates, administers, and executes the daily financial operations of the Finance department in accordance with EC policies and Canadian Accounting Standards for Not-for-Profit Organizations (ASNPO). The position prepares EC’s financial statements, manages payroll and benefits, oversees month-end processes and government filings, and administers donation programs. The Financial Analyst works closely with the Coordinator, Finance, the Director, Finance and department managers to maintain strong internal controls and support EC’s strategic priorities.

Requirements

  • 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including full-cycle accounting and financial statement preparation.
  • Post-secondary education in accounting, finance, or business administration.
  • Experience with payroll processing and benefits administration.
  • Experience with preparing monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statements and financial reports.
  • Experience with budgeting and forecasting, including preparing annual operating budgets and reporting on budget-to-actual variances.
  • Experience administering charitable donations, including the preparation and issuance of official donation receipt.
  • Knowledge of Canadian Accounting Standards for Not-for-Profit Organizations (ASNPO).
  • Experience preparing GST/HST filings and other government remittances.
  • Proficiency with accounting software and strong Excel skills; experience with QuickBooks, Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Teams, and Word.
  • Proactive and self-motivated, with a demonstrated ability to take initiative and improve processes.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills, with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • High level of integrity, discretion in handling confidential information, and consistent professionalism.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote, collaborative team-based environment.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Complete month-end close, including journal entries and accruals.
  • Reconcile general ledger control accounts, balance sheet, and P&L accounts.
  • Review departmental financial results with department managers and flag material variances to the Director, Finance.
  • Process and submit bi-weekly payroll.
  • Administer employee onboarding, salary changes, terminations, and Records of Employment.
  • Administer the group benefits and RRSP matching programs.
  • Prepare annual payroll filings, including T4s and T4As.
  • Record and verify revenue and expense transactions.
  • Maintain reconciliation schedules for balance sheet accounts bank accounts, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, and investments.
  • Prepare and file GST/HST returns and other required government filings.
  • Administer corporate and event-related donation programs.
  • Review donation expense claims for eligibility under CRA charitable donation guidelines.
  • Issue charitable donation tax receipts and respond to donor inquiries.
  • Prepare the annual Horse Maintenance Program (HMP) donation summary report.
  • Support the Director, Finance in preparing the annual operating budget, including compiling and reviewing departmental budget submissions.
  • Enter approved budgets and forecast changes into the financial system.
  • Update forecasts during the year and report budget-to-actual results to department managers.
  • Prepare year-end working papers and support the annual external audit.
  • Maintain internal accounting controls and safeguard the confidentiality of financial records.
  • Support, coach, and review work from the Coordinator, Finance.
  • Serve as a finance resource to other departments, vendors, and external stakeholders.
  • Recommend improvements to financial processes and procedures.
