Requirements

  • Bachelors of Science degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
  • Two years’ experience in Accounting Supervisor role, preferably in a healthcare environment
  • Ability to read and write in English
  • Ability to speak and hear, to allow discussions with customers, employees, and peers.
  • Ability to cope with and remain calm under stress
  • Ability to respond to telephone calls
  • Ability to make sound and independent decisions
  • Bending and lifting (5-20 lbs), grasping, fine hand coordination, pushing and pulling.
  • Ability to repeatedly twist, squat, and stoop
  • Sitting/standing for long periods of time
  • Reaching for and handling charts, reports, and supplies
  • Involves sitting approximately 90 percent of the day, walking or standing the remainder.

Responsibilities

  • Performs responsibilities consistent with hospital safety policies.
  • Assists in the preparation and review of original and correcting journals entries.
  • Able to perform financial analysis.
  • Assists in compiling and preparation of hospital budget and analysis.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance with state financial requirements.
  • Assists in the coordination of audit functions, including State, financial and internal.
  • Coordinates filings for Corporate Use, including monthly financials and annual tax.
  • Assists and coordinates special projects for all financial areas, as needed.
  • Assists in the management of the physical and personnel requirements for accounting.
  • Knowledge of Accounting Policies/Practice of hospital.
  • Aware of and complies with accounting deadlines.
  • Understanding of reporting structure with Corporate.
  • Demonstrates a thorough knowledge and understanding of UHS corporate reporting structure.
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of the process and identifies expenses that need to be accrued at month end.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of accounting records, their use and retention.
  • Taking ownership for one’s own actions and decisions.
  • Understanding the impact of market forces on hospital objectives and direction.
  • Cultivating relationships with contacts within and outside of the hospital while promoting cross-departmental collaboration.
  • Recognizing one’s own leadership and functional strengths and weaknesses, and managing them accordingly.

  • Provides guidance/counsel and participates in the negotiating of contracts.
  • Reviews contracts/vendors for efficiency and cost effectiveness.
  • Establish department goals.
  • Functions as an active member of committees, as needed.
  • Makes suggestions/recommendations for improved operations to the department, facility.
  • Effectively communicates both orally and in writing.
