About The Position

Conduct highly technical research, prepare/analyze/review financial, tax and/or regulatory information to provide to senior management, regulators, internal/external audit and other interested parties; adherence to internal controls while ensuring the quality of data being reported. This role involves mentoring junior team members, problem resolution, data interpretation, variance analysis, and timely submission of reports. It also includes preparing complex financial schedules, reconciliations, and reports for the Corporation, such as bank regulatory reports, SEC reporting, reports to shareholders and the Board of Directors, and internal management reports. The position requires a strong knowledge of various tax regulations, the ability to evaluate situations using multiple sources of information, and suggest insightful conclusions. Other functions include data integrity testing, general ledger entries, adherence to generally accepted accounting principles, SEC disclosure requirements, and bank regulatory requirements. The role may involve reviewing the work of junior staff, participating in special projects, improving existing processes, and interacting with business line personnel to communicate results to department management. Ensuring success through shared responsibility of team workload to achieve department/project objectives (volume, quality, timeliness of end results) is key. Participation in training and development opportunities across Finance and the Bank is expected, along with understanding, adhering to, and contributing to the improvement/timeliness of deliverables and process efficiency. Adherence to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite is mandatory. Identifying risk-related issues needing escalation to management and promoting an environment that supports belonging and reflects the M&T Bank brand are also important aspects of the role. Maintaining M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points and any issues raised by external regulators, is required. Other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 3 years’ experience.
  • OR Associate's degree and a minimum of 5 years’ experience in accounting auditing, operations or financial institutions.
  • Comprehensive understanding of finance, accounting and/or regulatory reporting concepts, business operations and/or bank products and knowledge of banking industry.
  • High level of PC competencies (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Access. Data visualization or data querying applications are a plus.)
  • Detail oriented, with advanced problem-solving skills.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi task while prioritizing workload.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting or related field.
  • Financial Services Industry experience.
