About The Position

UT Southwestern is seeking a motivated Financial Analyst I with strong communication, analytical, and organizational skills to support the dynamic and growing Nursing Finance team. This role will provide financial and operational support to Nursing leadership through monthly financial reporting, variance analysis, financial modeling, and other departmental reporting activities. The Financial Analyst I will assist with preparing and reviewing monthly financial management reports, identifying trends and variances between budget, forecast, and actual performance, and working with the Nursing Finance team to understand the operational drivers behind financial results. This position will also support the preparation of financial analyses and written summaries used during monthly financial meetings with Nurse Directors, Managers, and other departmental leaders. In addition, the Financial Analyst I will assist with monitoring departmental expenditures to ensure alignment with approved budgets and applicable hospital accounting policies. The role will collaborate with Nursing leadership, administrative assistants, and other internal partners to support financial processes, reporting, policies, and governance as needed. This position provides an excellent opportunity to develop hospital finance knowledge while gaining exposure to a broad range of Nursing operations. Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills are preferred, with an expectation that technical and financial reporting skills will continue to develop through hands-on experience, training, and exposure to the department's processes. Prior experience with systems such as Adaptive Planning, Smart View, or other financial applications is helpful but not required. The successful candidate should be comfortable working with data, asking questions, learning new processes, and collaborating with both financial and operational partners. This position is 100% remote.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly financial management reports and review financial information for accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
  • Analyze budget, forecast, and actual performance and assist in identifying the operational drivers contributing to financial variances.
  • Prepare written financial summaries and recommendations to support departmental decision-making.
  • Assist with monthly financial reporting and monitoring of expenditures to ensure compliance with hospital accounting policies and approved budgets.
  • Develop financial models and perform financial and operational analyses to support Nursing leadership.
  • Prepare financial information and analyses for presentation during monthly financial meetings with Nurse Directors, Managers, and other leaders.
  • Assist with productivity, staffing, capital, and other financial reporting initiatives as needed.
  • Collaborate with Nursing leadership, administrative assistants, and other internal partners to support financial processes, policies, governance, and reporting.
  • Assist with special projects and ad hoc financial analyses as requested.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Completes monthly financial management reports and reviews all reports for errors and inconsistencies; analyzes variations in forecasts and actual performance; determines reasons for variance; develops recommendations for improvement; completes written summaries of financial data.
  • Assists with preparing monthly financial reports, schedules for annual financial reports, and reports to various government agencies, ensuring conformance of such reports with applicable procedures and regulations of University of Texas System and Federal and State agencies concerned.
  • Identifies areas of poor performance, presents findings, and makes recommendations to upper management.
  • Prepares financial models and conducts financial analyses.
  • May assist in maintaining controls for policies and procedures for financial system; develops and maintains delegation of authority of various procedures, such as check requests, refunds, invoice approval, bad debt write-offs, etc.
  • Assists with special projects as requested.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
