About The Position

The Department of Pathology is seeking a full-time Financial Analyst 3 to work on-site in Miami, FL. The Financial Analyst 3 examines financial status of the organization by collecting, monitoring, and studying data, and develops projections, reports, and presentations to assist senior managing staff in their financial decision-making process. Moreover, the incumbent establishes and enforces policies and procedures that further department’s financial goals and objectives. The Financial Analyst 3 serves as a staff member of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine (DPLM) Finance Team and provides advanced financial, analytical, and operational support across the department’s professional clinical, academic, and research missions. The position supports departmental leadership including the Director of Finance, Department Chair, Senior Administrative Officer (SAO), faculty leaders, and administrative stakeholders through independent financial analysis, operational reporting, reconciliation, forecasting, and strategic decision-support activities. This role requires the exercise of professional judgment, analytical thinking, problem-solving, discretion, and independent prioritization in a complex academic healthcare environment with multiple funding sources, compensation structures, operational workflows, and regulatory considerations.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, prepares and coordinates documentation of financial analysis projects such as budgets, forecasts, projections, expense performance, and presentations.
  • Identifies trends and developments in competitive environments and makes recommendations to senior management.
  • Provides analytical evaluation for forward-looking financial or business-related projects.
  • Devises financial forecasting and reconciliation of accounts.
  • Reviews reports and ensures that financial information has been recorded accurately.
  • Compares results with plans and forecasts and makes recommendations for adjustments.
  • Trains and oversees junior staff members to ensure accuracy and efficiency in end work product.
  • Assists in the development and organization of department and project budgets.
  • Designs and builds various models that summarize several different scenarios around growth and expansion initiatives or opportunities.
  • Develops performance and productivity dashboards, models or analyses.
  • Determines profitability and pricing on product offerings and develops performance indicators to enable the analysis of business segments and new product lines.
  • Conducts research on different strategic initiatives.
  • Acts as liaison to other departments, vendors, and other external parties to complete assignments.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
  • Performs independent financial analysis, reconciliations, and operational reporting activities to support departmental leadership decision-making, financial planning, and strategic operational initiatives.
  • Prepares and reviews variance analyses, run-rate analyses, expense trends, and comparative financial reports.
  • Assists with monthly and quarterly financial close processes including revenue review, accrual support, invoice validation, and account reconciliation.
  • Reviews financial statements, validates financial transactions, and monitors departmental financial performance to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Conducts ad hoc financial analyses, reporting, and special projects in support of departmental and institutional priorities.
  • Supports administration and reconciliation of faculty compensation plans, supplemental payments, incentive payments, and provider compensation activities.
  • Maintains faculty compensation master files, FTE/eFTE distribution files, and compensation-related documentation.
  • Assists with provider productivity reporting and dashboard development, including wRVU, volume, FTE distribution, and operational metrics reporting.
  • Prepares compensation summaries, payout documentation, and faculty evaluation support analyses.
  • Assists with reconciliation and communication related to Professional Expense Allowance (PEA) activity.
  • Assists with preparation and maintenance of budgets, forecasts, financial models, and operational proformas supporting clinical, academic, and research activities.
  • Develops proformas and financial analyses for new faculty positions, service agreements, outreach initiatives, and strategic operational projects.
  • Supports tracking and monitoring of departmental financial commitments and allocation methodologies.
  • Assists with costing allocation reviews, forecasting activities, and financial impact analyses.
  • Supports financial activities related to external support across departmental programs and initiatives.
  • Reviews and monitors costing allocations, PAAs, research commitments, and other related financial transactions.
  • Assists with tracking financial commitments associated with departmental and cancer center research activities.
  • Supports operational finance workflows and internal financial controls across the department.
  • Assists with reconciliation and monitoring of outreach, reference laboratory, AOA billing, purchasing, and invoice-related activities.
  • Reviews and reconciles operational transactions including purchase orders, invoices, deposits, and payments.
  • Assists with management and review of Workday financial roles, access assignments, and operational finance processes.
  • Serves as a professional finance resource to departmental leadership and stakeholders by providing analytical support, financial interpretation, and operational guidance related to departmental financial activities.
  • Develops and maintains dashboards, tracking tools, reports, and operational financial summaries to support leadership oversight and decision-making.
  • Creates and updates standard operating procedures (SOPs), workflow documentation, and process improvement resources.
  • Utilizes Workday and Microsoft 365 applications including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, Planner, and Copilot to support financial reporting, operational efficiency, and workflow management.
  • Identifies opportunities for process improvement, operational standardization, enhanced financial tracking, and workflow optimization.
  • Collaborates with departmental leadership, faculty, research administration, supply chain, education, and operational teams to support financial and operational initiatives.
  • Provides financial and operational support for departmental meetings, strategic initiatives, and leadership reporting needs.
  • Exercises independent judgment, analytical reasoning, and problem-solving in managing assigned responsibilities and resolving financial or operational issues.
  • Performs other duties as assigned in support of departmental and institutional priorities.
