About The Position

The Advising & Outreach Team within the Office of Student Financial Aid at UW-Madison is seeking a Financial Aid Advisor that enjoys making connections with students, families, and campus partners about financial resources available to them. The ideal candidate will have a passion for meeting diverse audiences and be willing to learn and explain complex federal regulations to broad audiences in a manner easy to understand. As part of the advising team, the incumbent will assist in meeting current and prospective students and families to discuss financial aid options. They will serve as advisor on duty on a weekly rotation assisting our frontline services Team, and lead in responding to emails in a timely manner using CRM. The incumbent will assist in meeting outreach requests in alignment with our mission of increasing accessibility and diversity across campus while serving as a liaison to different campus/community partners.

Requirements

  • Strong public speaking skills with demonstrated experience in creating and presenting information in a variety of learning styles
  • Ability to explain complex systems and procedures in an accessible and easy to understand manner
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills with an ability to work collaboratively
  • Should be able to work well under pressure while managing multiple high-priority tasks simultaneously
  • Comfortable with working with a diverse group of people.
  • Ability to work occasional night and weekends, and occasional travel.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to speak Spanish preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships with campus and community partners.
  • Familiarity of financial aid processes and regulations

Responsibilities

  • Serves as liaison to identified schools/colleges and specific student populations
  • May hire, train, and supervise student employees
  • Serves as point of contact for students and associated individuals about financial aid information and processes
  • Demonstrates commitment to the University’s mission statement, particularly to be sensitive and responsive to those groups which have been underserved by higher education. Participation in related learning activities is expected
  • Contributes to the University mission through service on ad hoc or ongoing committees on or off campus
  • Contribute to office policy and procedures updates by regularly attending meetings, webinars, conferences and professional development opportunities on financial wellness and federal financial regulations to stay current with policy changes/updates
  • Performs outreach related to financial aid
