About The Position

The Financial Aid Advisor II, under direction, counsels and provides student financial aid and scholarship information to prospective and currently enrolled students and their families. Facilitates workshops, develops and makes presentations on and off campus to groups regarding financial aid and scholarships. May coordinate or specialize in a specific program. May provide some mentorship and training to other staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • One year in of related experience.
  • Knowledge of: Word processing and spreadsheet applications.
  • Knowledge of: Financial aid counseling, verification, rules and regulations
  • Ability to: Multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to: Oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Advises and counsels students, parents, and/or prospective students in solving their educational financial problems through scholarships, loans, grants, employment and financial counseling.
  • Responds and researches questions and counseling needs.
  • Provides loan and indebtedness counseling.
  • Assists outreach staff with prospective students and in their transition to current students.
  • Reviews student files, collects supporting documentation, and makes adjustments.
  • Awards, revises and/or approves financial aid through the specific controls of program policy and guidelines.
  • Makes adjustments for compliance issues, and submits corrections.
  • Reviews appeals and makes decisions regarding the validity of these appeals and notifies the student of steps they must take to satisfy judgment rendered to re-establish eligibility for financial aid or scholarships.
  • Greets visitors and answering questions.
  • Serves as a back-up counselor and a walk-in counselor on a weekly basis.
  • Provides assistance and guidance to staff to ensure that processing activities adhere to established policies and procedures.
  • Assists with conducting presentations, seminars, and/or workshops for students and professional development training.
  • Assists in planning and executing special events.
  • Participates in the review, revision, and interpretation of complex rules, regulations, procedures and policies.
  • Interprets federal, state and institutional policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Assists in developing and revising financial aid information, materials, publications and brochures.
  • May coordinate or serve as a resource for a specialized program for financial aid.
  • Serves as regularly scheduled Cisco queue phone agent, and office emails, and assists with coverage of the front counter in the main reception area of the department, greeting visitors, and answering inquiries regarding federal financial aid forms, records, procedures, and policies.
  • Work with weekly reports to adjust student’s files as applicable.
  • Work with other departments for reconciliation of assigned programs.
