About The Position

The Financial Advocate role is responsible for effectively demonstrating communication skills (verbal and written) related to conveying relevant information. This role involves developing and maintaining efficient internal communication processes to support the activities of the department/program. The Financial Advocate will openly communicate across many departments regarding financial, patient care, physical and/or material resources, and keep key leadership, administrative staff, and other stakeholders fully informed of projected and actual developments in a timely manner. This position also involves prioritizing multiple requests for information, acting as a liaison between the family, Revenue Cycle, and division leaders, and understanding and utilizing the Epic billing system. The Financial Advocate prepares and forwards patient documentation to appropriate third-party payers and is able to review, explain, and resolve billing concerns. Additionally, this role serves as a resource to patients and families by coordinating funding options, government and non-government programs, and financial assistance to reduce barriers to care. The Financial Advocate follows established workflows and checklists to ensure accuracy and compliance in all account activities, escalates discrepancies or payer issues promptly to senior staff for resolution, and operates under close supervision while demonstrating attention to detail and commitment to protecting revenue through timely and accurate processing. The role performs routine tasks, follows workflows, resolves straightforward issues, and escalates complex situations, with a focus on learning about available resources and submitting basic applications for Medicaid, Financial Assistance, and Title V funding.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2 years of work experience in a related job discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience.
