The Financial Advocate GCM is responsible for calculating and providing patients with personalized estimates of their financial responsibility based on their insurance coverage prior to service. This role involves clearly and accurately communicating patient liability, explaining concepts like deductibles, coinsurance, copayments, non-covered, and out-of-network services. The Financial Advocate also requests upfront payment for self-pay amounts and outstanding balances, establishes payment arrangements, and interviews uninsured patients to assess financial needs and identify assistance programs. They initiate credit scoring to determine eligibility for Medicaid, charity care, and other programs, and collaborate with social workers and external vendors to complete Medicaid applications. A strong understanding of insurance benefits, regulations, and internal policies is crucial. The role requires educating offices and patients on financial policies and coordinating with provider offices regarding scheduling and financial responsibility. The Financial Advocate must stay current on government funding regulations, comply with charity care policies, and adhere to federal regulations like 501R and HIPAA. Collaboration with peers and serving consumers in various settings are also key aspects of this position.
