About The Position

Northwestern Mutual is hiring for their Fall 2026 Internship Program. This program is dedicated to the success, both personally and professionally, of students and is ranked among the Top 25 internships across all industries and non-profits for 25 years. The program offers a modern approach to financial advising, providing guidance, connection, and a framework for building an integrated financial planning practice from the ground up. Interns will have the opportunity to build a financial planning practice while engaging with experts, selling exclusive financial products, and receiving support from a Fortune 500 company. This role helps build confidence, develop a professional network, and assist people in achieving financial freedom. The internship mimics the full-time Financial Advisor career, allowing interns to learn prospecting and networking, develop business strategies, call on potential clients, prepare plans and recommendations, gain exposure to planning software, engage in coaching and training, get licensed, and build life skills for future career opportunities. The program offers a flexible schedule and the option to participate year-round, with support for registrations and certifications. It also provides access to leadership programs and diverse resources for personal and professional growth. Eligible students may have the opportunity to interview for a full-time role upon graduation.

Requirements

  • Full-time student; juniors and seniors preferred
  • Entrepreneurial ambitions and curiosity for sales
  • Highly involved on campus (leader, athlete, campus orgs, student government, etc.)
  • Excellent time-management skills
  • Interest in financial literacy and planning tools
  • Business savvy and desire to increase critical thinking abilities

Responsibilities

  • Learn how to prospect and network to build your business and client base
  • Develop and execute on a business strategy
  • Call on potential clients and set meetings to understand their financial goals
  • Prepare plans and offer useful recommendations
  • Gain exposure to proprietary planning software platforms
  • Engage in weekly coaching, training, and development meetings
  • Get licensed with your Life, Accident, and Health insurance license
  • Build life skills that create future career opportunities
