About The Position

The Financial Accountant plays a key role in delivering accurate and timely financial reporting and compliance across multiple entities. Working closely with both operational and corporate finance stakeholders, this role supports the full month-end close cycle, prepares journal entries and reconciliations, and performs detailed variance analysis. This position also contributes to process improvements, supports system implementations, and helps optimize reporting timelines in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of full-cycle accounting experience (journal entries, reconciliations, and financial analysis).
  • Strong understanding of financial accounting principles, including revenue recognition, balance sheet accounting, and P&L analysis.
  • Proven experience with financial statement analysis, reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
  • Experience working within a SOX-compliant or controlled environment is preferred.
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills (e.g., PivotTables, VLOOKUP, large data sets).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain financial concepts to non-finance stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • CPA designation completed or in progress (near completion preferred).
  • Experience working in a multi-entity environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to IFRS and/or US GAAP.
  • Experience with ERP systems (e.g., Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar).
  • Experience in a large, complex, or publicly traded organization is an asset.
  • Background in audit and internal controls is advantageous.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proactive approach.
  • Experience working in a cross-functional or matrixed environment.
  • Willingness to work in a hybrid environment (in-office presence required part of the week).

Responsibilities

  • Support financial reporting and compliance activities across multiple entities, ensuring accuracy and adherence to applicable standards and internal policies.
  • Partner with operational and finance teams to execute the full month-end close process, including preparation and posting of journal entries and supporting working papers.
  • Prepare monthly journal entries with appropriate documentation, ensuring compliance with internal control requirements (including SOX, where applicable).
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis, identifying and resolving discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual variance analysis of Profit & Loss and balance sheet accounts, developing insight into key financial drivers.
  • Provide clear commentary and analysis on financial results to support management decision-making.
  • Execute and maintain internal control procedures in line with compliance programs (e.g., SOX).
  • Prepare statutory and regulatory reporting as required.
  • Support initiatives related to process improvements, system implementations, and close cycle optimization.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders including finance, FP&A, operations, auditors, and external partners.
  • Manage competing priorities and deadlines while maintaining high-quality deliverables.
  • Operate both independently and as part of a team in a dynamic environment.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement efforts across accounting and reporting processes.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders across various levels and functions.
