The Financial Accountant III position exists to provide advanced support to assigned ministries in one or more of the following areas: general accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, financial analysis, and reporting. This role involves developing an in-depth understanding of assigned Impact Centers’ ministry objectives, interfacing with client project managers and facilitators to ensure accurate and timely accounting of ministry activities, and contributing significantly to planning annual budgets and monitoring the execution of ongoing financial plans. The position also ensures timely and accurate processing of incoming sales invoices and corresponding payments, interacts with vendors and staff for invoice/payment resolution, and ensures outgoing invoices and received payments are processed promptly. It includes maintaining customer and supplier accounts, posting transactions to the general ledger, and preparing and entering accruals and journal entries in compliance with GAAP, ministry policies, and procedures. The role performs financial analysis, reconciliations, and journal entries to support monthly and annual close processes, prepares detailed financial reports, and provides information to clients, staff, and executive leadership. Additionally, it involves developing, maintaining, and troubleshooting complex spreadsheets and databases for financial monitoring and reporting, engaging with other work groups to solve problems, maintain regulatory compliance, and maximize ministry stewardship, and assisting in developing and implementing effective internal controls. The position oversees record-keeping in compliance with GAAP and ministry policies and participates in cross-functional team assignments. Specific responsibilities include managing charitable solicitations and gift annuities filings, administering licensing agreements and royalty income, and ensuring accurate and timely preparation and filing of sales and use tax returns, federal and state tax documents, and other tax-related forms. It also involves analyzing unrelated business income, reconciling sales tax accounts, researching tax and business topics, reviewing publications for lobbying activity compliance, analyzing rental income for tax filings, assisting with use tax calculations, maintaining customer sales tax exemptions, and analyzing sales tax errors. Furthermore, the role posts, reconciles, and maintains the Fixed Asset ledger, participates in capital budget coordination, reviews and tracks Capital Appropriation Requests, and calculates and maintains depreciation schedules. For inventory accounting, the position is responsible for accurate weighted average costs, item numbers, accounting instructions, and document types in the accounting system, as well as accurate accounting of inventory, Cost of Goods Distributed, product assembly, obsolescence/excess valuations, and disposals, and providing meaningful analysis and reporting to management. Other duties include assisting in training and development of staff, assisting in insurance renewals, and performing other assigned duties. The role may oversee the work of lower-level staff accountants.
