About The Position

The City of Encinitas Finance Department is seeking to fill a Finance Technician vacancy in the Financial Operations Division. As a Finance Technician, you will have a chance to expand your knowledge by rotating through various operational functions, including cashiering, accounts receivable, accounts payable, invoice auditing, and purchasing. The ideal candidate is a self-starter, who is detail oriented, organized, analytical, and an effective communicator with a passion for public service. This is an exciting growth opportunity with the City of Encinitas Finance Department. Finance Technicians are responsible for performing a variety of activities ranging from entry level to program area expert. Incumbents assigned to program areas are required to answer technically difficult questions, analyze and recommend changes in procedures and processes, and train staff on new rules and/or procedures.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, or General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D.), plus two years of office experience involving financial records and demonstrated skills in keyboarding, 10-keying, basic spreadsheet and word processing, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

Nice To Haves

  • One additional year of experience or a total of three years of progressively responsible experience related to area of assignment or an equivalent combination of education and experience; or, a minimum of one year with the City of Encinitas performing the full range of Finance Technician I duties. (Level II)
  • Three additional years of experience or a total of five years of progressively responsible experience related to area of assignment or an equivalent combination of education and experience; or, a minimum of three years with the City of Encinitas performing the full range of Finance Technician II duties. (Level III)

Responsibilities

  • May serve as a lead, including assigning and monitoring work.
  • Reviews, processes and routes a variety of payments, forms, applications, journal entries, corrections, statements, and other related documents ensuring completeness and accuracy.
  • Assists customers and employees with requests for information over the phone and in person.
  • Prepares, updates, and maintains a variety of financially related correspondence, notices, billings, records, spreadsheets, and files.
  • Prepares, balances, reconciles, and records a variety of reports, vouchers, statements, deposits, and other related financial transactions and/or documents.
  • Compiles a variety of financial information and prepares related reports.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
