About The Position

The Finance Team Lead serves as the head of Hillside’s Finance Department, providing leadership, direction, and coordination across all finance functions. This role ensures that the department operates as a unified team, with financial strategy, planning, and reporting aligned to support Hillside’s mission and organizational priorities. This position manages the Finance Department’s people, priorities, and resources, serving as the primary point of contact between the Finance Department and the Director of Administration. The Finance Team Lead works closely with the Controller to ensure sound accounting and with the Financial Analyst to ensure clear financial insight, while leading the department’s contribution to budgeting, board reporting, and strategic planning.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the Finance Department, including the Controller, Financial Analyst, and Staff Accountant (through the Controller), ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and the direction set by the Director of Administration
  • Serve as the primary point of contact between the Finance Department and the Director of Administration, ensuring that finance-related matters are communicated clearly and handled within the department whenever possible
  • Set departmental priorities, manage workload distribution, and ensure that deadlines and deliverables are met across all finance functions
  • Prepare and oversee the Finance Department’s operating budget, ensuring that resources are used wisely and progress is regularly reviewed
  • Lead the annual budget process, coordinating across ministry leaders and departments to develop the organization’s operating budgets
  • Provide strategic financial perspective and recommendations to the Director of Administration to support leadership and board-level discussions
  • Lead the development and communication of financial reports, dashboards, and presentations for leadership and board-level discussions, in coordination with the Director of Administration
  • Review and approve analytical output (budgets, forecasts, variance analyses, and board reporting) prepared by the Financial Analyst, ensuring strategic alignment and clarity before distribution
  • Oversee cash flow management, reserve monitoring, and liquidity planning in coordination with the Controller and Financial Analyst
  • Monitor organizational financial health and provide regular updates to the Director of Administration on trends, risks, and opportunities
  • Support the Director of Administration in managing financial relationships, including banking, investments, and insurance
  • Ensure that restricted and designated funds are tracked and reported appropriately, in coordination with the Controller
  • Serve as the primary finance contact for ministry leaders, supporting budgeting, answering financial questions, and providing clarity around resource stewardship
  • Coordinate with Human Resources on compensation planning, benefits administration, and payroll-related coordination
  • Support audit preparation and serve as a departmental liaison during the annual audit process, working alongside the Controller
  • Represent the Finance Department in cross-functional initiatives and organizational planning efforts
  • Develop and support team members through coaching, feedback, and professional growth opportunities
