About The Position

This hybrid position requires the employee to be located within 100 miles of any Mayo Clinic campus for on-site expectations. The role involves managing and collecting Mayo Clinic Account Receivables by collecting, reviewing, and documenting patient and payer information. Responsibilities include resolving account, billing, and payment issues, interpreting and applying Mayo Clinic policies, and maintaining accurate documentation. Excellent customer service and negotiation skills are essential for interacting with patients and third-party payers via phone or in person. The position may also be eligible for telework after an adequate training period and demonstrated ability to meet metrics.

Requirements

  • HS Diploma or equivalent and 4 years of relevant experience in finance, collections, customer service, insurance and/or health care environment OR Bachelor's degree is required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities are essential for effectively resolving account inquiries, coordinating with internal and external stakeholders, and delivering a high level of customer support.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in business or health care field preferred.
  • Exceptional customer service skills and the ability to build and maintain positive relationships with outside vendors, hospitals, and accounts payable departments.
  • A solid understanding of accounts receivable processes, including aged account collections, invoicing, and credit balance management, is preferred.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of efficiently navigating multiple systems and websites while managing competing priorities.
  • NAHAM Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) certification preferred.
  • Experience as a Financial Representative is preferred.
  • Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) Certification Preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Collects, reviews, discusses, and documents demographic, insurance, and financial information with patients and payers for Mayo Clinic Arizona, Jacksonville and Rochester Revenue Cycles.
  • Responsible for management and collection of Mayo Clinic Account Receivables through the use of automated systems and revenue cycle processes.
  • Responds to and resolves a variety of account, billing and payment issues from patients and customers.
  • Follows approved guidelines and policies regarding routine patient and payer interactions.
  • Makes independent decisions that require individual and/or team analysis, reasoning, and problem solving.
  • Interprets, applies and communicates Mayo Clinic policies regarding medical and financial aspects of patient care to assure optimal reimbursement for both the patient and Mayo Clinic.
  • Accurately document interactions and interpret interactions documented by others.
  • Must have excellent customer service skills and possess the ability to negotiate payment reimbursement from patients and third party payers, via incoming and outgoing phone calls or face to face interactions.
