About The Position

The Finance Operations Specialist plays a vital role in supporting the day‑to‑day accounting operations of the Finance Department, helping to ensure accuracy, organization, and financial integrity across the organization. This position assists with the preparation of financial reports as requested by the Finance Director and provides essential support to Staff Accountants by maintaining organized records, processing journal entries, and completing general accounting tasks that keep the department running efficiently. Burton Center is a non-profit disability and special needs board. Our organization was created in 1971 to provide essential services to individuals with disabilities and special needs and to offer much needed assistance to their families. Over the last five decades, we have been able to expand our range of services. With locations in Abbeville, Edgefield, Greenwood, Lexington, McCormick, Ware Shoals, and Saluda counties, Burton Center's staff of 325, assists over 500 people. Our services are provided free of charge to those who meet specific eligibility criteria by the South Carolina Office of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. We offer Day Programs, Residential Services, and Employment Placement Programs. This is a full-time position with hours on Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm. This position is located at Burton Center's home office in Greenwood, SC. This role is responsible for managing direct billing for DHHS and OIDD, reconciling payments received with billing records, and preparing monthly day program and residential analysis reports. The Finance Operations Specialist also completes daily bank deposits and assists staff accountants with assigned purchases and other accounting needs. In addition, this position supports filing, recordkeeping, and special finance projects as assigned. Through reliable support, attention to detail, and teamwork, the Finance Operations Specialist makes a valuable contribution to strong financial operations and helps ensure Burton Center can effectively support its programs, staff, and the individuals we serve.

Requirements

  • SC Driver's License
  • Previous Bookkeeping or accounting experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office or technical applications
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time
  • Ability to occasionally lift up 15lbs
  • Excellent communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Associate Degree in Business Administration or Accounting Preferred
