A company recognized as a great place to work in dozens of countries around the world and named one of the most admired companies in the world by Fortune A company that is recognized as one of the best big companies to work for as well as a best place to work for diversity, working mothers, female executives, and scientists The Opportunity Abbott Core Diagnostics has an opening for a Finance Manager at our Lake Forest, Illinois, location This role serves as the strategic finance partner to the TBI BARDA (Traumatic Brain Injury - Biomedical Advanced Research) team and Core Diagnostics leadership, supporting the program to expand claims on Abbott’s Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) assay. The Finance Manager provides the insights needed for timely, effective decision‑making and owns all core financial processes for the BARDA program—including Plan, RLBEs, Confirmations, Actuals reporting, Balance Sheet management, and federal invoicing. As an individual contributor, this role leads end‑to-end financial planning, forecasting, and reporting for a highly visible, federally funded initiative, ensuring accuracy, insight, and operational excellence.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting required
• Must have 5‐8 years of progressive finance experience supporting Commercial, Operations, and/or R&D organizations.
• Experience in multiple functions a plus.
• Sound financial analysis, sales forecasting, and dynamic modeling skills
• Communicate clearly, concisely, and accurately with all levels of the organization
• Must have strong interpersonal skills, ability to influence others without direct authority, good negotiating skills, solid analytical ability, and ability to think and adapt quickly in a changing environment

Responsibilities

• Own the development of annual and quarterly budgets, P&L and Balance Sheet forecasts, and financial models for the BARDA program.
• Translate key assumptions, risks, and opportunities into clear insights for leadership; lead RLBE and Confirmation Reviews with the R&D Controller.
• Prepare executive‑ready schedules, submissions, and presentations for Core Diagnostics senior leadership and Division/Corporate reviews.
• Partner cross‑functionally with Program Management, Medical, Clinical, and other teams to align budget needs for ongoing studies and present LBE summaries to the CFT.
• Review and interpret actuals, ensuring accuracy of financial results, operational metrics, and variance explanations for the R&D Controller.
• Develop and distribute monthly reporting packages; drive month‑end close activities, including journal entries and spend assessments.
• Oversee supplier invoice reviews, ACR submissions, and the preparation and submission of invoices to the federal government.
• Provide required BARDA financial reporting (travel, CLIN budgets, etc.) and serve as the finance voice in weekly CFT updates and leadership meetings.
