About The Position

The North American Sort Center team is responsible for Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A), investment strategy, and new transportation initiatives for this operation. This role will partner directly with multiple senior directors within the Northeast Region of Sort Centers to influence business decisions across operations and finance. A successful candidate effectively manages relationships with business partners, provides sound and thoughtful decision-making, and delineates between competing priorities in a quickly changing environment. The candidate should demonstrate amazing analytical skills, ability to work with ambiguity with strong analytical, verbal, and written communication skills as direct interaction is required with worldwide operations leadership. Additionally, this is an exciting opportunity to partner cross-functionally to ensure informed decision making, innovation, scalability, and sustainability is achieved for a growing network. The candidate will work with multiple cross-functional teams from Operations, HR, Capacity Planning, Long Term Planning, FP&A, and Tech teams to focus on creating continuous improvement opportunities across internal and external stakeholders to define, design, and maintain performance measurements, reporting and reviews. A typical day in this role provides an opportunity to lead root-cause analysis and uncover core issues to drive cost reductions with stakeholders, manage, evaluate and create meaningful business reporting, and build and maintain complex financial models and analytical tools to measure overall financial performance. Experience on this team opens up varying career opportunities across Amazon such as transitions to other business lines, project management roles, and/or management opportunities locally, regionally, and globally. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business, economics, or a related analytical field (e.g., engineering, math, computer science)
  • 5+ years of finance experience, or Master’s degree and 3+ years of finance experience

Nice To Haves

  • MBA, or CPA
  • 5+ years of identifying incomplete or inaccurate data, identifying the root cause and creating/implementing an escalation plan experience
  • 5+ years of solving complex business challenges by delivering accurate and timely financial models, analysis, and recommendations that have a proven impact on business (e.g., financial savings, operational improvements, or customer benefits) experience
  • Knowledge of and proficiency in Excel and SQL
  • Experience working with large-scale data mining and reporting tools (examples: SQL, MS Access, Essbase, Cognos) and other financial systems (examples: Oracle, SAP, Lawson, JD Edwards)
  • Experience delivering forecasting, budgeting, and variance analysis, and data interpretation of results, or experience with documenting accounting conclusions

Responsibilities

  • Identifies basic control risks, evaluates impact, proposes changes, and implements improvements to remediate gaps
  • Delivers weekly/monthly financial performance reports. Uses financial systems and advanced MSExcel functions to work with large data sets. Outputs plans, forecasts, budgets, and consolidations.
  • Works with a variety of data sources. Identifies incomplete or inaccurate data, identifies root causes of data issues, escalates discrepancies, fixes data where possible or partners to deliver a solution.
  • Uses active listening skills intuitively to communicate data (both written and verbal) in a clear, concise, and unambiguous manner. Adjusts style for various audiences to articulate complex finance issues clearly.
  • Identifies and implements solutions to resolve, improve, automate, standardize, or simplify finance processes.
  • Makes thoughtful time management decisions independently. Prioritizes work, resolves issues, meets deadlines, and seeks feedback from your manager. Discerns between urgent and non-urgent issues and acts accordingly to solve them.
