Finance Lawyer
About The Position
Axiom is seeking Finance Lawyers to join their legal support team and provide legal counsel to Fortune 500 clients. This role involves advising on a broad range of financial services, banking, investment management, capital markets, and securities-related matters. The position requires drafting, reviewing, and negotiating financial and commercial agreements, providing legal and regulatory guidance, and supporting business, compliance, risk, and operational teams by identifying legal risks and developing practical solutions. The role also includes monitoring regulatory developments and assisting with regulatory inquiries and compliance initiatives.
Requirements
- Licensed to practice law in at least one Canadian province.
- 5+ years of experience in financial services, banking, capital markets, investment management, securities, derivatives, funds, brokerage, or related areas.
- Experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating complex financial and commercial agreements.
- Familiarity with financial regulatory frameworks and the legal considerations affecting financial institutions, asset managers, investment firms, broker-dealers, or related organizations.
- Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to provide practical, business-focused legal advice.
Responsibilities
- Advise on a broad range of financial services, banking, investment management, capital markets, and securities-related matters.
- Draft, review, and negotiate financial and commercial agreements, including investment, trading, brokerage, derivatives, fund, lending, and related transactional documentation.
- Provide legal and regulatory guidance regarding financial products, investment activities, market practices, and applicable Canadian and international regulations.
- Support business, compliance, risk, and operational teams by identifying legal risks and developing practical solutions aligned with business objectives.
- Monitor regulatory developments and assist with regulatory inquiries, examinations, audits, and compliance initiatives.
