About The Position

Newport Mental Health (NMH) is a progressive, high-energy organization that uses a state-of-the-art person-centered recovery approach to help individuals recover from mental illness and substance use disorders. NMH extends its trauma-informed, evidence-based services to children, adolescents, families, and adults. Our services vary from outreach, specialized programs, mental health, school-based therapy, substance use therapy, community-based therapy, and outpatient clinics. Newport Mental Health is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Finance Intern to join our Finance Department. As a Finance Intern, you will gain hands-on experience in accounting, bookkeeping, and financial data entry while supporting the daily operations of the Finance team. This internship offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the financial health of a mission-driven nonprofit organization.

Requirements

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and comfortable using accounting software (experience with Blackbaud NXT or similar tools is a plus)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A willingness to learn and contribute in a collaborative team environment
  • Enrolled in a university or college program at junior or senior level in accounting, finance, or a related field

Responsibilities

  • Assist with Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR)
  • Perform data entry into accounting systems and spreadsheets with a high level of accuracy
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure timely and accurate financial processing
  • Maintain and organize financial documents for audit readiness
  • Provide support for other basic accounting and administrative tasks as needed
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the Supervisor
  • Attending trainings and meetings as assigned
  • Adhere to safety policies including participation in fire/disaster drills
