About The Position

Principal Finance Business Partnership – Gulf of America is based in Houston and reports to the Finance Manager, Gulf of America within the Financial Planning & Performance group. This role will support the Gulf of America Production Unit within the International Operations pillar but will also provide exposure across other regional areas. This role will act as a senior level business partner responsible for building financial acumen within the operations and delivering value from organizational continuous improvement. This role requires a commercial mindset and ability to work collaboratively to identify and progress opportunities that create and protect sustainable competitive advantage including partner recovery. Finance Business Partners create outcomes by building relationships, turning data into insights, challenging the status quo, and framing and influencing decisions through problem solving. The role works directly with the Operations, Subsurface, Surface Engineering, and Projects teams, support functions and the external finance relationships with Joint Venture partners.

Requirements

  • Degree in Finance and/or Accounting required.
  • 10+ years Finance experience, preferably within the upstream oil & gas sector.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, stakeholder engagement and ability to work autonomously and deliver as needed
  • Commercial mindset including understanding of license agreements, Joint Venture agreements, investment analysis, financing options, Key Value drivers, capital allocation, and business planning process.
  • Ability to influence, collaborate, persuade and negotiate internally and externally
  • Strong analytical skills and experience with SAP/S4 HANA, Power BI and AI tools preferred

Nice To Haves

  • Chartered Accountancy or Certified Public Accountancy qualifications and/or Postgraduate management degree desirable

  • Manage joint venture partner relationships and understands UOA with focus on maximizing cost recovery
  • Work with individual contributors and teams to frame and challenge the life of asset development plans and commercial opportunity framing and investment evaluation
  • Engage with GOA Operations, Surface Engineering, Subsurface and Projects teams to support progression of value
  • Develop and maintain stakeholder relations with management and teams across the asset support functions
  • With an owner’s mindset, offer commercial insight, analytical expertise and critical thinking and have strong communication and leadership skills
  • Own joint venture relationships and work with commercial teams and business to support valuable commercial outcomes (value enhancement, cost recovery, alignment on planned activities, delivery of annual operating plan)
  • Provide support for Joint Interest Billing statements and associated Cash Calls
  • Prepare and manage asset master data and authority for expenditure
  • Manage month-end processes such as journal entry preparation and posting, reporting on financial and production outcomes, and providing variance analysis and commentary
  • Support and challenge throughout the preparation of budgets and forecasts to ensure the plan outcomes will meet senior leadership and JV expectations
  • Management of budget and forecast ensuring capital discipline
  • Active membership in the Houston Incident Management Team (HIMT), to support License to Operate, Response & Recovery to major incidents or crisis events and mitigation of business disruptions.
