About The Position

Bain Capital Ventures is seeking a Finance Associate to join their Venture Finance team. This role will partner with senior Finance professionals to manage key tasks related to fund accounting and operations. The Venture Finance team supports investments in venture and growth stage companies within specific industry verticals. The affiliation with Bain Capital provides a competitive advantage through industry perspectives and a global network. The Finance Associate will be involved in quarterly US GAAP basis reporting, annual audits, tax basis book preparation, cash flow management, capital calls, and distributions. The role also includes analyzing portfolio company financials, preparing valuations and summarized data for partner presentations, and responding to limited partner inquiries. Collaboration with Investor Relations for presentation materials and website information, as well as understanding and documenting investment transactions, are also key responsibilities. The associate will analyze fund activities for compliance with partnership agreements, prepare management fee and expense allocation workbooks, and work on projects to enhance team and firm workflows, including the implementation of AI. Ad hoc responsibilities will also be assigned.

Requirements

  • 1-3 years in Public Accounting or related experience in an in-house accounting & finance role
  • Demonstrated professional and academic achievement
  • Self-starter with strong project management and follow-through skills
  • Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to effectively prioritize multiple projects with the highest attention to detail
  • Creative problem-solving ability and sound judgment
  • Strong team player with entrepreneurial predisposition and strong interpersonal skills
  • Outstanding Excel and PowerPoint skills
  • Bachelors Degree in Finance or Accounting from a four-year college/university with a strong academic background (minimum 3.5 GPA)

  • Familiarity with Investran and Workiva a plus

Responsibilities

  • Quarterly US GAAP Basis Reporting
  • Annual US GAAP Basis audit
  • Annual Tax Basis Book Preparation; working with internal tax department and external advisers regarding tax implication of complex investment transactions
  • Cash flow management, capital calls and cash and stock distributions
  • Review and analyze portfolio company financials in preparation for quarterly partner portfolio review meetings
  • Work with partners to prepare quarterly portfolio company valuations & prepare summarized data for partner presentations
  • Respond to requests and inquiries of limited partners and their representatives via telephone and email
  • Work with Investor Relations in preparation of presentation materials, information posted to investor website, fundraising documents
  • Understand and document investment transactions; working with deal staff and outside advisors on deal closings and harvest transactions
  • Analyze various fund activities to ensure compliance with partnership agreements
  • Prepare management fee and expense allocation workbooks supporting quarterly GAAP reporting across multiple venture fund complexes
  • Work with the CFO / VP Finance / Finance Managers on projects to enhance the product of the team, department and firm, particularly focused on the implementation of artificial intelligence into our day‐to‐day workflows
  • Other ad hoc responsibilities
