About The Position

Reporting to the Director, University Centre Operations, the Finance & Accounts Manager will maintain successful oversight, planning, and management of the financial activities of the University Centre Department. This includes the preparation and presentation of the operating budget, production of monthly financial statements and business forecasts, cash flow reconciliations, client account management, regular analysis of operating costs and accounts payable, inventory asset management, and supervision of accounting staff. The Finance & Accounts Manager will maintain control and oversight of financial practices and procedures in alignment with institutional policies and financial responsibilities and support the decision-making of the management team by providing up-to-date information and recommendations based on business activities, current expenditures, and other relevant financial and economic data. Business enterprise operations include two food and beverage venues, catering operations, facility support and rental services, and some retail activities. In their day-to-day work, the Finance & Accounts Manager will lead accounting staff in the management of daily financial processes including revenue remittance, sales reconciliation and payment reporting, client account statements and notices, accounts payable processing, financial reporting system transfers, cash float balancing, and other operational financial requirements. Other regular duties include administration of payment, point-of-sale, and accounting software and systems and reconciliation of accounting records against the university’s financial reporting system.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field, along with a professional accounting designation (CGA, CPA or related designation).
  • Minimum three (3) years demonstrated experience working in a business accounting role; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong knowledge in budgeting, forecasting, account management, financial reporting, and controls.
  • Strong analytical, communication, organizational, and problem solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage situations under pressure with professionalism and tact.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in facility management and operations, hospitality/retail industry, and/or post-secondary educational sectors is an asset.
  • Experience in presenting financial statements to a board of directors would be considered an asset.
